FIRST BASE GLOVE? What is the advantage?

I am a freshman fastpitch softball player. I made Varsity this year but I’m not playing much so next year my coach wants me to start at 1st base. I’ve havent played first base since I was 12 but I am usually a shortstop or 3rd baseman. My question is…. What is the advantage to a first base glove? Is it just that it doesn’t hurt your hand so much to catch it or is there something else? Thanks.

In addition to dane r’s response, a first base glove also keeps the ball from coming out. a 3rd baseman or shortstop doesn’t have that type of glove because they need to get the ball out of their glove fast and throw it but, the firstbaseman needs the ball to stay in their glove most of the time, basically it keeps the ball from falling out and helps you squeeze the ball. It helps you dig low balls and it is big to catch high balls and balls to either side. It has padding to keep the sting out of hte way.
