baseball glove size??!? help!?
planning to buy a glove…which size am i suppose to get… it ranges from 9 inch to 13 inches…i’m 17 year old male…(high school) thanksss
Depends on position.
Catcher– special catcher’s mitt–whatever fits as far as I know (never played catcher)
1st Base–special first base glove– Same as catcher (whatever fits-never played first)
Infield–anything from 11.25 inches to 12 inches tops. you want a relatively small glove so you can get the ball out quickly and make the throws. too big a glove and your hand will get lost in it when trying to get the ball out. I use 11.5 inches, because 12 inches feels too big for me, and 11.25 also just feels like not enough leather there. I reccomend 11.5 for infield, but whatever you’re comfortable with.
Outfield–12 inches (at least) to 13 or more. I don’t have an outfield glove(so i don’t know exact sizes, just minimum) but I know you want a bigger glove so that you can catch everything, and you have no worry about getting the ball out quick you’re just trying to catch it. Don’t get something so big that you feel like you have no control over it. Start at 12 or 12.5 and work up until you find something too big, then go with the last one down
Pitcher–12 inches. Small enough for control, big enough to make all the plays without sacrificing anything for needless quickness like an infield glove.
All of this is assuming that you’re getting a good leather glove, at least $50 minimum, for serious play. I would reccomend Rawlings, and their Gold Gloves ($90) are perfect if you’re serious about playing. There’s always heart of the hide and pro preferred ($150 and $250), which ARE better, but I wouldn’t reccomend if you’re starting out.
If you’re just playing on weekends or not competitively, then it doesn’t really matter whatever glove you get, as long as it fits. If I had to advise, I would say 12 inches cause that’s the middle ground. But at that point it really doesn’t matter as long as you can catch with it.
