Baseball Tips
Baseball is game of skill, the top athlete isn’t always the better baseball player, especially if they do not possess the required multitude of skills that can help them become a complete player.
Baseball is a game of throwing, fielding, pitching, catching, base running, and hitting. To improve in these areas, you must always practice using basic drills. The practices can be fast – jumping from one drill to another.
As a player, you should also focus on getting the most out of every session of drills. Don’t just go through the motions because you may develop bad habits!
You should also focus on getting the most from your drills. Concentrate on getting as many opportunities as you can you get while practicing.
Throwing the ball : Grip the ball strongly with your index finger and place your middle along the long seams of the baseball with your thumb underneath to give it support. When you throw, square your shoulders with your target when you release the ball and move towards the target. Throw with a ¾ arm action and remember follow through.
Fielding the ball : Ensure you have good balanced position by having your feet spread out. You don’t want the ball to go between your legs so remember to have your glove in front of you so you can block the ball in case you miss the catch! Bring the ball up to your midsection and give it a good throw.
Catching Fly Balls : If you are in the outfield you want to be behind the ball. First, you can see the ball and secondly, you can quickly get into your stride so you can throw to your target. Try and always to catch the ball above your shoulder with a slight bend in your elbow. This will help cushion the catch.
Batting Stance: For the most part, you want a parallel stance with your feet shoulder width apart. Your toes should be pointed inward slightly because this will help you with your balance.
Pitching : Focus on consistent strikes with good and well practiced mechanics. This will probably reduce the possibility of arm injury. Dont throw each & every pitch at the same speed. You can keep the batter confused and their timing off. Learn to locate the ball inside, outside, up and down. Learn to get late movement in your pitches.
Base running : You always want to run the bases in a manner to give your self the best chance to achieve top speed. For example, , if running more than one base, try timing your steps so you can hit the base with your right foot because you get less of an arc and you can keep a more consistent, longer stride as you speed towards the next base.
Although these tips are few, when it comes to developing skills for playing baseball, they will help in your effort in becoming a better and more complete baseball player.
